Obito v. Kakashi & ABBA’s Mamma Mia

Sometimes two things entangle themselves with each other so seamlessly you are unable to separate them ever again. This is the case for the first piece of media that I dubbed my Highlight of the Day on the first installment of this series.

Who would have thought that these two stand-out pieces of media have the potential to maximize their joint slay together? Tumblr girlies, apparently.

Every Monday for the past few weeks, my mind inevitably led me to Hatake Kakashi & Uchiha Obito of Naruto-fame beating each other to pulps accompanied by ABBA crooning Mamma Mia in the background. On their own rights, both ABBA’s Mamma Mia & Obito v. Kakashi battle is a capital I, Iconic. It might sound like a hyperbole, but I mean it when I say this edit altered something in my brain. Who would have thought that these two stand-out pieces of media have the potential to maximize their joint slay together? Tumblr girlies, apparently.

a live-changing edit if I say so myself.

After being disillusioned with the ruin that is Twitter, Tumblr came through & reminded me again of why I joined the online fans community in the first place. It is for all these gorgeous arts, thought-provoking meta-commentary, & inspired edits. It was being in a place where a community can get excited together over their joint experience of being changed forever thanks to various arts & media.

Getting into Naruto again made me realize that one thing I love the most about it is the potential angst & drama that was stored in it. In the story full of broken characters, Kakashi is a broken man in a whole different field. Man truly never catches a break since childhood. I was amazed that instead of going missing-nin, he somehow made it to the Hokage position. Like? This man is mentally ill. Get him away from there 🤧 The way I would screaming, crying, and throwing up when I witnessed the whole Obito reveal life. This battle is a fitting climax for the story of Kakashi.

Just look at the material:

On the surface, the edit is Iconic due to the synchronicity of it all. It is objectively great on its own. Add to that is the layer of how Mamma Mia fits when paired with Kakashi & Obito’s dynamic and backstory. This is what elevated this edit for me. These two truly cannot let each other go.

I think I will have more to say about it after I am completely through with my second full reading of the manga & second full watch of the series (I know, pray for me).

The inspired way this edit was arranged is the highlight for me.

an after note: while going through the final editing my Tumblr account got randomly terminated 🙂. This is apparently a common occurrence. I am too lazy to recover it, so I guess yours truly is without a fandom-related social media account now 🤠. I am definitely losing one place that guaranteed me a highlight of the day. But still, there are a lot of fish at sea, so who knows what the future holds?
